Mary Pitts Has Passed Away
We are all sad to hear of Mary's passing, but as we mentioned when you first informed us that considering her failing health, pain, and suffering with the fighting of her cancer she's in a better place now. As most whom knew Mary are aware that she was very involved with the Marine Corps League and other veterans organizations. In addition she was MCL Past Department Auxiliary President, and MCL Southwest Division Auxiliary, National Vice President. Mary, as many knew, was also a Gold Star Mom who lost her son PFC Eddie Pitts, USMC, KIA Vietnam.
All those wishing to send sympathy cards to Mary's family may do so by mailing to:

Important News Item from the National Convention
Effective with the close of the Marine Corps League’s 86th National Convention (August 7, 2009) held in Rochester, MN, the KHAKI (tan) SHIRT is no longer authorized for wear as a part of the Marine Corps League Uniform for any purpose. The members in attendance voted overwhelmingly to remove the “Khaki” (tan) shirt as an authorized part of the Ceremonial Uniform. It has not been authorized for wear with any other MCL uniform for several years. All Detachment and Department Color Guards and Honor Guards are to suspend wearing of the Khaki Shirt and change over to the “Casual” uniform or “Undress” uniform as prescribed in National Bylaws Enclosure Three (3).
Note: Please encourage our detachments and members to lend their support to our museum assistance. As you know, we were an integral part of supporting the National Museum at Quantico. I know that we have other museums in San Diego and Hawaii within the Southwest Division that deserve our support as well, and I strongly urge your support of these endeavors. I think it is important that we continue to develop centers of educating our citizens on the role of Marines in our Nation's history.
Commandant's Message
MARINES, FMF CORPSMEN, ASSOCIATE MEMBERS & DEVIL DOGS
As we head for the close of the Marine Corps League's fiscal year 2010, we look forward to seeing the results of our efforts to recruit and retain members for our League. The 3rd quarter continues to show improvements in members recruited and lower delinquency rates both for our Southwest Division and nationally. Membership is a reflection of our contribution to the Marine, veteran, and local community. Keep charging!
As I conclude my two terms as your National Vice Commandant, I want to thank each of you for your service, and for your contributions to the programs and activities of your detachments and the League. You perpetuate what Marines and members of the League are all about.
I want to especially thank the members of the Southwest Division staff for their tireless efforts over the past four years in continuing the traditions and legacy of the division. We still have a lot of work to do -- I'm confident that my successor, Marine Dick Broderick, will continue the accomplishments, achievements and growth.
I ask that we all make sure that we're communicating with each other, and that we're taking care of each other. God Bless our Marines, veterans, those who serve us in harm's way, and our Country. Godspeed, and
Semper Fidelis,

R. Meade Phillips

At the Division level, our mission is threefold:
Our web site will be in the development and growth stage for a period of time. We plan to provide you with a calendar of major events within the Division, links and direction for information pertaining to the Marine Corps League, educational and information exchange, and information that will be helpful to you whether you are thinking about joining us, or are currently a member.
The Southwest Division meets annually in January in the vicinity of Camp Pendleton. Our meetings are held in conjunction with the Marine Expo West at Camp Pendleton. We invite all members within the Division to not only attend our annual conference, but to participate in the Expo by meeting and supporting the active duty Marines who attend.
